Go to topSTATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 11391 IN ASSEMBLY October 22, 2018 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Bichotte) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Codes AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to establishing "Jeremiah's Law" relating to establishing the offense of filing a false report concerning a minor The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Short title. This act shall be known and may be cited as 2 "Jeremiah's Law". 3 § 2. The penal law is amended by adding a new section 240.49 to read 4 as follows: 5 § 240.49 Filing a false report concerning a minor. 6 A person is guilty of filing a false report concerning a minor when he 7 or she falsely reports an incident in the third degree as described in 8 section 240.50 of this article and the individual who is the accused 9 subject of the report is a child under the age of thirteen years. 10 Filing a false report concerning a minor is a class E felony. 11 § 3. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed- 12 ing the date upon which it shall have become a law.
