MOURNING the death of John L. Mosher, meritorious
veteran, distinguished citizen and devoted member of
his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of John L. Mosher, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, John L. Mosher of Clarence Center, New York, died on
Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, After being drafted in March of 1945, John L. Mosher
completed basic training in Blanding, Florida; from there, he sailed to
Italy, where he proudly served his country as a rifleman and mortar
gunner in Company H of the 88th Division of the 350th Infantry of the
United States Army during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of the war, John L. Mosher served in
Tarcento, Italy as a peacekeeper on the Yugoslavian border until his
discharge in December of 1946 with the rank of Private 1st Class; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his devoted service to our Nation,
Private John L. Mosher received the Army Good Conduct Medal, American
Campaign Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon
and World War II Victory Ribbon; in 2015, he was inducted into the New
York State Veteran's Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, John L. Mosher distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community as a dairy farmer and a real estate broker/owner of the
Mosher Agency; and
WHEREAS, John L. Mosher's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, For most of his life, John L. Mosher was an active and
vital member of his Clarence Center community; he held the title of
President of St. John's Lutheran Home for Children from 1976-1986,
served as a trustee with Niagara Lutheran Health Systems, and was the
former Commander of American Legion Post No. 838 of which he was a
member since 1972; every year, he participated in both the Clarence
Memorial Day Parade and Clarence Center Firemen's Labor Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
community and fellow veterans, John L. Mosher was the recipient of the
2020 Clarence Chamber Lifetime Achievement Award; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his loving wife, the former Althea
Gillmeister, John L. Mosher is survived by two daughters, Linda Mosher
and Carol (Gary) Schwertz; one son, David (Laura); six grandchildren,
John (Kesorn), Kristina (Michael), Michael, Rebecca (David), Katie
(Daniel), and Rachel (Robert); and two great-grandchildren, Nawin and
Tyler, as well as many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, John L. Mosher will be fondly remembered by family, friends
and fellow soldiers for his compassion, leadership, selflessness and
courage; he truly lived by his motto, "God put us here to help others";
and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, John L. Mosher leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of John L. Mosher, meritorious veteran, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of John L. Mosher.
