Senate Resolution No. 3125

        MOURNING   the   death   of   Gerald   P.   Quinn,
        distinguished citizen  and  devoted  member  of  his
        community
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of  New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Gerald Paul Quinn of Hopewell Junction, New York,  died  on
Thursday, February 20, 2020, at the age of 82; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Born on August 26, 1937, in Tarrytown, New York, to Arthur
and Rita (Rigney) Quinn, Gerald P. Quinn was the second youngest of nine
children; and
 
  WHEREAS, As a young boy, Gerald P.  Quinn  lived  in  Ossining,  New
York, and was a graduate of Ossining High School; and
 
  WHEREAS,  On May 6, 1967, Gerald P. Quinn married the former Barbara
Lilly, and the newlyweds resided in Croton-on-Hudson,  New  York,  until
1993;  they  then  moved  first to Fork Union, Virginia, then Fort Myers
Beach,  Florida,  before  returning  to  Croton-on-Hudson,  and  finally
settling in Hopewell Junction; and
 
  WHEREAS, Gerald P. Quinn distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Gerald  P.  Quinn  was  employed  as  a Union Steamfitter,
proudly working on projects such as the 1964 World's Fair; and
 
  WHEREAS, In 1966, being a strong  willed  and  hardworking  man,  he
started  his  own  business,  Jerry  Quinn  (& Son) Painting Contractor;
today, his son,  Darrin,  is  the  owner  and  operator  but,  up  until
2019,Jerry was still "cutting in a cat's eyeball"; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Gerald P. Quinn's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over  into  all  fields  of  enterprise,  including
charitable and civic endeavors; and
 
  WHEREAS, Gerald P. Quinn was a Lifetime member and former Captain of
the  Croton-on-Hudson's  Volunteer  Fire  Department, Columbian Hook and
Ladder Company No. 1; and Past President of the  Painting  &  Decorating
Contractors of America; and
 
  WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Rita; wife, Barbara;
and  three siblings, Joan LaLuna, Michael Quinn and Arthur Quinn, Gerald
P.  Quinn is survived by his five sisters, Patricia Vasta, Sylvia Olivo,
Catherine Cornu, Mary Campbell, and Rita DeMaria; five  children,  Jerry
Riccio, Tara (Peter) Colavecchio, Shannon Quinn (John), Darrin (Shelley)
Quinn,  and  Erin  Quinn (Matt); 10 grandchildren, Melissa, Dylan, Ryan,
 
Lucas,  Savannah,  Alex,  Aydan,   Patrick,   Lilly,   Ruby;   and   one
great-granddaughter, Alice; as well as many nieces and nephews; and
 
  WHEREAS,  As  an  avid  boater,  Gerald P. Quinn, who truly lived an
extraordinary life, enjoyed navigating the open waters  on  his  beloved
boat(s)  "Irish  Mist";  he was always there with a helping hand for his
family and friends, and will be remembered for his unrelenting strength,
big appetite, and a friend to all; and
 
  WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a  sense  of
compassion,  Gerald  P.  Quinn  leaves  behind  a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
mourn  the  death  of  Gerald  P.  Quinn,  and  to  express  its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the family of Gerald P. Quinn.
