CONGRATULATING Cole Evans of Ballston Spa High
School upon the occasion of capturing the 2023 New
York State Public High School Athletic Association
Boys Giant Slalom Championship on Tuesday, February
28, 2023
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Cole
Evans, who captured the 2023 NYSPHSAA Boys Giant Slalom Championship
beating out Queensbury's Hudson Montgomery at Bristol Mountain in
Canandaigua on Tuesday, February 28, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Utilizing outstanding talent, Cole Evans capped off a
spectacular season posting a time of 2:14.10 across two runs being the
first New York State male Alpine Ski Team State Champion from Ballston
Spa, a trailblazer for many more talented young skiers to follow; and
WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of purple and gold,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported Cole Evans throughout his journey as he recorded a 3rd Place
finish in the Section 2 Championship in the Giant Slalom race, a 2nd
Place finish at the Brandon Sherwood Memorial Giant Slalom, and 2nd
Place at the Queensbury Invitational Giant Slalom; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this scholar athlete is
due in great part to the efforts of a great team of coaches, skilled and
inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential
into excellence; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as skiing, which demands athletic prowess,
speed and agility, Head Coach Mitch Huff, and Assistant Coach Kristine
Phelps worked hard to hone the skills of this champion, teaching this
outstanding athlete lessons which will prove invaluable both on and off
the course; and
WHEREAS, In light of his recent accomplishments, Cole Evans has
brought honor and just pride to his school and community on the local,
and State level; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Cole Evans of Ballston Spa High School upon the occasion of
capturing the New York State Public High School Athletic Association
Boys Giant Slalom Championship; Head Coach Mitch Huff, and Assistant
Coach Kristine Phelps on an outstanding season; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Cole Evans, the aforementioned coaches, Athletic Director
David Sunkes, Interim Principal Richard Murphy and Superintendent Dr.
Gianleo Duca.
