Assembly Resolution No. 658

BY: M. of A. Gandolfo

CELEBRATING the 100th Anniversary of St. Patrick
        School

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
celebrate those institutions that contribute to the education and
academic success of the citizens of this great State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
celebrate the 100th Anniversary of St. Patrick School on January 29,
2022; and

WHEREAS, St. Patrick School was founded in 1921 after four Sisters
of Mercy traveled from Brooklyn to Bay Shore, New York, to staff the
School at the invitation of Father Donovan; 185 children in grades 1-4
were taught temporarily in the old church building on Fifth Avenue
before the Sisters and the children were able to move into a new
location on Main and Clinton, which is the site of the present-day
School; and

WHEREAS, St. Patrick School enables each child to reach his or her
highest potential academically and spiritually, ensuring a strong
foundation to support future learning and encouraging students'
development of respect, courtesy, understanding, compassion, and moral
character through work and action; and

WHEREAS, St. Patrick School strongly believes all children have the
ability to learn; the School fosters students' personal and academic
talents, recognizing that children have different degrees of ability and
academic preparation while helping all students achieve their full
potential; and

WHEREAS, St. Patrick School's robust curriculum includes fundamental
areas of Religion, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social
Studies, along with enrichment in Art, Music, Physical Education, and
Computer Technology; and

WHEREAS, Students begin a strong Spanish Language Program in
kindergarten, where they are introduced to the language through songs,
games, and storytelling and progress to use of grammatical structures to
enhance proficiency in the seventh and eighth grades; and

WHEREAS, St. Patrick School also integrates religious and social
values into daily school activities; social responsibility and respect
for diversity are taught through community service and helping less
fortunate individuals; and

WHEREAS, Alongside a strong academic program, St. Patrick School
provides a rich moral foundation for students, with the parish community
teaching, living, and practicing gospel values in their everyday lives
and creating a caring atmosphere of love, respect, and support; and

WHEREAS, St. Patrick School looks forward to contributing to the
enrichment of its community, and to providing high quality education for
its students in the years to come; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the 100th Anniversary of St. Patrick School on January 29,
2022; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to St. Patrick School.
