        AN  ACT  to amend the insurance law, in relation to blanket accident and
          health policies issued to a college, school or  other  institution  of

          learning
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Subparagraph (C)  of  paragraph  3  of  subsection  (a)  of
     2  section 4237 of the insurance law is amended to read as follows:
     3    (C)  Under  a policy or contract issued to a college, school, or other
     4  institution of learning or to the head  or  principal  thereof,  who  or
     5  which shall be deemed the policyholder.  Any insurer issuing a policy or
     6  contract pursuant to this subparagraph shall provide written notice to a
     7  certificate  holder  or  student  covered  under  such policy, in a form
     8  prescribed by the superintendent, of the date coverage terminates  under
     9  such  policy or contract and a description of coverage options which may

    10  be available following termination of such coverage. Such  notice  shall
    11  be  provided  at  the  commencement  of  coverage  under  the  policy or
    12  contract, and not less than forty-five days prior to the termination  of
    13  coverage.
    14    §  2.  This act shall take effect September 1, 2009 and shall apply to
    15  all policies and contracts issued, renewed, altered or modified,  on  or
    16  after such date.
