AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to requiring state and
municipal agencies, authorities, boards and commissions that collect
demographic data as to the ancestry or origins of state residents to
utilize a separate collection and tabulation category entitled "Asian
or Pacific Islander" for the purpose of identifying persons having
origins in any of the Far East countries, South East Asia, the Indian
subcontinent or the Pacific Islands
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section 170-c
2 to read as follows:
3 § 170-c. Racial references utilized in the collection of demographic
4 data. Any state or municipal agency, authority, board or commission that
5 collects demographic data as to the ancestry or origins of state resi-
6 dents shall utilize in such collection, and in all forms and other writ-
7 ten and electronic materials associated with such collection, a separate
8 collection and tabulation category entitled "Asian or Pacific Islander"
9 for the purpose of identifying persons having origins in any of the Far
10 East countries, South East Asia, the Indian subcontinent or the Pacific
11 Islands.
12 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
