        Introduced  by  Sen.  WEBB  --  read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation -- reported
          favorably from said committee, ordered to  first  and  second  report,
          amended  on  second  report,  ordered  to  a  third reading, and to be
          reprinted as amended, retaining its place in the order of third  read-
          ing  --  recommitted  to the Committee on Transportation in accordance
          with Senate Rule 6, sec. 8  --  committee  discharged,  bill  amended,
          ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee
 
        AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
          the state highway system as the "Peter Wheeler Memorial Bridge"
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-p to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 344-p. Portion of the state highway system to be designated  as  the
     4  "Peter  Wheeler  Memorial Bridge". All that portion of the state highway
     5  system constituting the bridge on  state  route  thirty-four-B  crossing
     6  Salmon Creek in the town of Lansing, county of Tompkins, shall be desig-
     7  nated and known as the "Peter Wheeler Memorial Bridge".
     8    §  2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
     9  lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state  highway  system
    10  as  designated  pursuant  to  section one of this act. However, to avoid
    11  confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce,  the  desig-
    12  nation  called  for  pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of
    13  ceremonial nature and the official name of  such  bridge  shall  not  be
    14  changed as a result of this act.
    15    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
