        Introduced  by  Sen.  FUNKE  -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Judiciary
 
        AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, in relation to providing an exemption
          from jury duty for service as an election  inspector,  poll  clerk  or
          election coordinator
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Paragraph 2 of subdivision (a) of section 517 of the  judi-
     2  ciary  law,  as  added  by chapter 86 of the laws of 1995, is amended to
     3  read as follows:
     4    (2) An application for postponement of jury service shall  be  granted
     5  hereunder  provided:  (i) such service has not already been postponed or
     6  excused, (ii) the application is made at such time and in such manner as
     7  the commissioner of jurors requires, [and] (iii) the postponement is  to
     8  a  date  certain  when  the court is in session not more than six months
     9  after the date on which such service otherwise is to commence  and  such
    10  date  is  selected  by  the  prospective juror, and (iv) the prospective
    11  juror is to act as an election inspector, poll clerk or election coordi-
    12  nator pursuant to title four of  article  three  of  the  election  law,
    13  during the time of such prospective juror's jury service.
    14    §  2.  This  act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
    15  have become a law.
