AN ACT to amend the New York city civil court act, in relation to
increasing the term of office of judges of the New York city civil
court housing part
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Subdivision (i) of section 110 of the New York city civil
2 court act, as amended by chapter 310 of the laws of 1978, is amended to
3 read as follows:
4 (i) Housing judges shall have been admitted to the bar of the state
5 for at least five years, two years of which shall have been in active
6 practice. Each housing judge shall serve full-time for five years except
7 that, once a housing judge has served a five-year term, each term in
8 such office to which he or she thereafter is reappointed shall be for
9 ten years. Reappointment shall be at the discretion of the administra-
10 tive judge and on the basis of the performance, competency and results
11 achieved during the preceding term.
12 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to the
13 terms of office of housing judges reappointed on or after such effective
14 date.
