        Introduced by Sen. ESPAILLAT -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Aging
 
        AN ACT to amend the elder law, in relation to amending the definition of
          eligible  services  to  include  education  regarding  elder abuse and
          exploitation
 

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1. Paragraph (d) of subdivision 1 of section 209 of the elder
     2  law, as amended by section 41 of part A of chapter 58  of  the  laws  of
     3  2010, is amended to read as follows:
     4    (d) "Eligible services" shall mean services including, but not limited
     5  to:  case  management,  care coordination, counseling, health assessment
     6  and monitoring,  transportation,  socialization  activities,  home  care
     7  facilitation  and  monitoring,  education  regarding  the signs of elder
     8  abuse and exploitation and available resources for a   senior who  is  a
     9  suspected  victim  of  elder  abuse  or exploitation, and other services
    10  designed to address  the  needs  of  residents  of  naturally  occurring

    11  retirement  communities  by  helping  them  extend  their  independence,
    12  improve their quality of life, and avoid unnecessary hospital and  nurs-
    13  ing home stays.
    14    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
