        Introduced  by  Sen. BONACIC -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation --  commit-
          tee  discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recom-
          mitted to said committee
 
        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to  the  solic-
          itation of donations on state highways

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 1157 of the vehicle and traffic law is  amended  by
     2  adding a new subdivision (d) to read as follows:
     3    (d)  (i)  Notwithstanding  subdivisions (a) and (c) of this section, a
     4  person shall be permitted to occupy any part of a state highway  outside
     5  the  geographical  boundaries  of  a  city or village for the purpose of
     6  soliciting on behalf of a fire company as defined by subdivision two  of
     7  section  one hundred of the general municipal law, a voluntary ambulance
     8  service as defined by subdivision three of section one  hundred  of  the
     9  general  municipal law, or an organization exempt from taxation pursuant
    10  to section 501 (c) of the internal revenue code unless prohibited  by  a
    11  local law of the town in which such solicitation occurs.
    12    (ii)  Nothing  in  this  subdivision shall be interpreted to authorize
    13  towns to prohibit solicitations authorized by subdivisions (a) or (c) of
    14  this section.
    15    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
