Go to top STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 9636 IN SENATE May 16, 2024 ___________ Introduced by Sen. JACKSON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring a review of school safety plans for traffic and transportation issues The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 409-n 2 to read as follows: 3 § 409-n. School safety plans. Notwithstanding any other provision of 4 law to the contrary, a local transportation regulatory agency shall 5 review and approve a school safety plan prior to the issuance of a 6 building permit for a new school facility or the expansion or renovation 7 of an existing school facility. The school safety plan shall include an 8 evaluation of potential traffic and transportation issues related to the 9 school, as well as proposed measures to mitigate any safety risks. The 10 provisions of this section shall not apply to a school facility that is 11 owned or operated by a school district. 12 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
