NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY
MEMORANDUM IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION
submitted in accordance with Assembly Rule III, Sec 1(f)

BILL NUMBER: A8344

SPONSOR: Carroll P
TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public officers law, in relation to qualification to hold the position of assistant county attorney in the county of Rockland   PURPOSE: This bill would authorize the County of Rockland to appoint assistant county attorneys residing outside of the county.   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one amends Section 3 of the public officers law to authorize the County of Rockland to appoint assistant county attorneys residing outside of the county. Section two is the effective date.   JUSTIFICATION: This bill was introduced at the request of the Rockland County legisla- ture. As Rockland County continues to face increased competition from surrounding job markets, the county recognizes the need to expand the area in which attorneys may reside to increase the applicant pool. This bill would provide the county more flexibility to hire attorneys from the surrounding area.   LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New bill.   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
