NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY MEMORANDUM IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION submitted in accordance with Assembly Rule III, Sec 1(f)

BILL NUMBER: A3235
SPONSOR: Eachus

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the executive law, in relation to adding Moodna Creek in
Orange County to the definition of inland waterways

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL::
Adds Moodna Creek in Orange County to the definition of inland waterways

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS::
Section 1: Amends Paragraph (c) of subdivision 4 of section 911 of the
executive law to include Moodna Creek.
Section 2: Sets the effective date.

JUSTIFICATION::
New York's inland waterways are unique with a variety of natural, recre-
ational, industrial, commercial, ecological, cultural, and aesthetic
significance. One of these significant inland waterways is Moodna Creek,
a tributary of the Hudson River that drains eastern Orange County, New
York. Despite its small size relative to the Hudson, it has been a major
influence on eastern and central Orange County.
Designating Moodna Creek as an inland waterway would allow munici-
palities surrounding Moodna Creek to pursue New York State Local Water-
front Revitalization Program grants. These grants would help fund feasi-
bility studies and design and implementation of land use and watershed
management plans.
