AN ACT to amend the economic development law, in relation to authorizing
the department of economic development to give a preference to any
tourist promotion agency that is promoting the sport of rugby
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Subdivision (a) of section 161 of the economic development
2 law, as amended by chapter 678 of the laws of 2024, is amended to read
3 as follows:
4 (a) Encourage, facilitate and coordinate the planning and implementa-
5 tion of programs to advertise, stimulate, promote and increase tourist
6 travel, resort, vacation, culture and convention activities within the
7 state and its regions with such flexibility as to bring about as effec-
8 tive and economical a tourist promotion plan as possible. The department
9 shall give a preference to any tourist promotion agency that is promot-
10 ing the sport of cricket [or], the sport of stickball or the sport of
11 rugby;
12 § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
13 it shall have become a law; provided, however, that if chapter 678 of
14 the laws of 2024 shall not have taken effect on or before such date then
15 section one of this act shall take effect on the same date and in the
16 same manner as such chapter of the laws of 2024, takes effect.
