        Introduced by M. of A. RAJKUMAR -- read once and referred to the Commit-
          tee   on   Corporations,  Authorities  and  Commissions  --  committee
          discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted
          to said committee
 
        AN ACT directing the metropolitan transportation authority to study  the
          feasibility of developing and operating an autonomous rail rapid tran-
          sit (ART) network in the city of New York
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The metropolitan transportation authority, in  consultation
     2  with  the  department  of  transportation of the city of New York, shall
     3  conduct a feasibility study on developing and  operating  an  autonomous
     4  rail  rapid  transit  (ART)  network in the city of New York. Such study
     5  shall focus on adding mass transit options to neighborhoods with limited
     6  or no subway or rail service. Such study shall  also  include  potential
     7  routes,  infrastructure  needs,  fare  collection,  integration with bus
     8  routes and other transit services, and availability  of  technology  for
     9  procurement.
    10    §  2.  Within one year of the effective date of this act, the chair of
    11  the metropolitan transportation authority shall submit a written  report
    12  to  the  governor,  temporary  president  of  the senate, speaker of the
    13  assembly and mayor of the city of New York, with the findings and recom-
    14  mendations of the study conducted pursuant to this act.
    15    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
