AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state and county highway system to the Harriet Tubman Underground
Railroad Byway
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 342-fff
2 to read as follows:
3 § 342-fff. Portions of the state and county highway system to be dedi-
4 cated to the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway. All that portion
5 of the state and county highway system beginning on state route 5 at the
6 city limits of Auburn, Cayuga county, to its intersection with state
7 route 38; thence along state route 38 to the city limits of Auburn; and
8 also all that portion of the state and county highway system beginning
9 on state route 20 where it crosses into Seneca county in the town of
10 Seneca Falls; thence west along state route 20 to the intersection with
11 Lake street in the city of Geneva, Ontario county; thence west along
12 Lake street until the intersection with state route 14 in the city of
13 Geneva, Ontario county; thence north along state route 14 until the
14 intersection with state route 31 in the town of Lyons, Wayne county;
15 thence west along state route 31 until the intersection with state route
16 78 in the city of Lockport, Niagara county; thence south along state
17 route 78 until the intersection with state route 263 in the town of
18 Amherst, Erie county; thence south along state route 263 until the
19 intersection with US route 62 in the town of Amherst, Erie county;
20 thence south along US route 62 until the intersection with state route 5
21 in the town of Amherst, Erie county; thence west along state route 5
22 until the intersection with Michigan avenue in the city of Buffalo, Erie
23 county; thence south along Michigan avenue until the intersection with
24 Broadway in the city of Buffalo, Erie county; thence west along Broadway
25 until the intersection with Lafayette square in the city of Buffalo,
26 Erie county; thence west along Lafayette square until the intersection
27 with Court street in the city of Buffalo, Erie county; thence west along

1 Court street until the intersection with Niagara square in the city of
2 Buffalo, Erie county; thence north along Niagara square until the inter-
3 section with state route 384 in the city of Buffalo, Erie county; thence
4 north along state route 384 until the intersection with state route 265
5 in the city of Niagara Falls, Niagara county; thence north along state
6 route 265 until the intersection with state route 384 in the city of
7 Niagara Falls, Niagara county; thence west along state route 384 until
8 the intersection with Niagara street in the city of Niagara Falls,
9 Niagara county; thence west along Niagara street until the intersection
10 with third street in the city of Niagara Falls, Niagara county; thence
11 north along third street until the intersection with Whirlpool street in
12 the city of Niagara Falls, Niagara county; and thence north along Whirl-
13 pool street until terminating at the intersection with Depot avenue west
14 in the city of Niagara Falls, Niagara county shall be dedicated to the
15 Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway.
16 § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
17 lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
18 as dedicated pursuant to section one of this act, provided that such
19 signing shall state "Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway". Howev-
20 er, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce,
21 the dedication called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be
22 one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not
23 be changed as a result of this act.
24 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
