AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, in relation to prohibiting any court,
party or person other than a stenographer from providing or selling a
court transcript to a third party
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 300 of the judiciary law, as renumbered by chapter
2 649 of the laws of 1945, is amended to read as follows:
3 § 300. Stenographer [must] shall, upon the payment of fees allowed by
4 law therefor, furnish a certified transcript of [proceedings to parties
5 on payment of fees. The stenographer shall, upon the payment of his fees
6 allowed by law therefor, furnish a certified transcript of] the whole or
7 any part of [his] the minutes of a proceeding, in any case reported by
8 [him] the stenographer, to any party to the action requiring the same.
9 Any court, party or person who has purchased a transcript may, without
10 paying a further fee to the stenographer, reproduce a copy or portion
11 thereof as an exhibit pursuant to court order or rule, or for internal
12 use, but shall not otherwise provide or sell a copy or copies to any
13 other party or person.
14 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
