        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to allowing the president
          of the  citywide  council  on  high  schools  to  participate  in  the
          selection  of  the  members  of  the board of education elected by the
          community district education council presidents

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  Clause (D) of subparagraph 1 of paragraph (a) of subdivi-
     2  sion 1 of section 2590-b of the education law, as added by section 1  of
     3  part  ZZ  of  chapter  56  of  the  laws  of 2024, is amended to read as
     4  follows:
     5    (D) Commencing on July first, two thousand [twenty-four] twenty-seven,
     6  the board of education shall consist of twenty-four voting members:  one
     7  member  to  be  appointed  by  each borough president of the city of New
     8  York; five members, one from each borough of the city of New York, to be
     9  elected by community district education council presidents and the pres-
    10  ident of the citywide council on high schools;  one  independent  member
    11  who  shall  serve  as  chair  of  the board and who shall be selected as
    12  established in  subparagraph  three  of  this  paragraph;  and  thirteen
    13  members  to  be  appointed  by  the  mayor  of the city of New York. The
    14  initial term of the chair selected pursuant  to  subparagraph  three  of
    15  this paragraph shall commence on September fifteenth, two thousand twen-
    16  ty-four and shall end on September fourteenth, two thousand twenty-five;
    17  thereafter  the  chair  shall  serve  for  a one-year term commencing on
    18  September fifteenth. The chancellor shall continue  regulations  promul-
    19  gated  under  clause (C) of this subparagraph establishing a process for
    20  community district education council presidents to elect members of  the
    21  board,  and processes for removal of such members and for the filling of
    22  such positions in the event of a vacancy. Appointed members and  members
    23  elected  by  community district education council presidents pursuant to
    24  clause (C) of this subparagraph and commencing a term on July first, two
    25  thousand twenty-four shall serve a term that ends on June thirtieth, two
    26  thousand twenty-five.   Thereafter, appointed members  and  the  members

     1  elected  by  community district education council presidents shall serve
     2  for a one-year term commencing on July first.
     3    §  2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2027; provided, however, that
     4  the amendments to clause (D) of  subparagraph  1  of  paragraph  (a)  of
     5  subdivision 1 of section 2590-b of the education law made by section one
     6  of  this  act  shall not affect the expiration or repeal of such section
     7  and subdivision and shall be deemed repealed therewith.
