AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to financial
responsibility requirements for transportation network companies
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 3 of section 1693 of the vehi-
2 cle and traffic law, as added by section 2 of part AAA of chapter 59 of
3 the laws of 2017, is amended to read as follows:
4 (a) The following automobile financial responsibility insurance
5 requirements shall apply while a TNC driver is engaged in a TNC prear-
6 ranged trip: insurance against loss from the liability imposed by law
7 for damages, including damages for care and loss of services, because of
8 bodily injury to or death of any person, and injury to or destruction of
9 property arising out of the ownership, maintenance, use, or operation of
10 a specific personal vehicle or vehicles within this state, or elsewhere
11 in the United States in North America or Canada, subject to a limit,
12 exclusive of interest and costs, with respect to each such occurrence,
13 of at least one million two hundred fifty thousand dollars because of
14 bodily injury to or death of any person, and injury to or destruction of
15 property provided however, that such policy need not be for a period
16 coterminous with the registration period of the personal vehicle
17 insured, and coverage in satisfaction of the financial responsibility
18 requirements set forth in section three thousand four hundred twenty of
19 the insurance law, article fifty-one of the insurance law; [coverage
20 provided in accordance with subsection (f) of section three thousand
21 four hundred twenty of the insurance law, providing supplementary
22 uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance for bodily injury, in the
23 amount of one million two hundred fifty thousand dollars because of
24 bodily injury to or death of any person in any one accident;] uninsured
25 motorists coverage in the minimal amount and in the form provided for in
26 subsection (f) of section three thousand four hundred twenty of the
27 insurance law; and such other requirements or regulations that may apply
28 for the purposes of satisfying the financial responsibility requirements
29 with respect to the use or operation of a motor vehicle.
30 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
