        Introduced  by  M. of A. SAYEGH, SLATER -- read once and referred to the
          Committee on Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to separating  interscho-
          lastic athletic championships between public and non-public schools
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
     2  subdivision 63 to read as follows:
     3    63. The commissioner shall require the public schools athletic league,
     4  the New York state public high school athletic  association,  and  other
     5  high  school  interscholastic  athletic associations hold separate state
     6  interscholastic  athletic  championships  for  public   and   non-public
     7  schools.   Such requirement shall prohibit public and non-public schools
     8  from holding interscholastic athletic competitions prior  to  any  state
     9  interscholastic athletic championships for a particular sport.
    10    §  2.  This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding
    11  the date on which it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the
    12  addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule  or  regulation  necessary
    13  for  the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized
    14  to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
