        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the provision of child
          care services on school grounds during school hours
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Paragraph (i) of subdivision 1 of section 414 of the educa-
     2  tion law, as amended by chapter 106 of the laws of 2000, is  amended  to
     3  read as follows:
     4    (i)  To provide child care services during [non-school] school hours[,
     5  or to provide child care services during school hours for  the  children
     6  of  pupils  attending the schools of the district and, if there is addi-
     7  tional space available, for children of employees of the district,  and,
     8  if there is further additional space available, the Cobleskill-Richmond-
     9  ville  school  district  shall  provide child care services for children
    10  ages three and four who need child care assistance due to lack of suffi-
    11  cient child care spaces]. Such  determination  shall  be  made  by  each
    12  district's board of education, provided that the cost of such care shall
    13  not  be a school district charge but shall be paid by the person respon-
    14  sible for the support of such child; the local social services  district
    15  as authorized by law; or by any other public or private voluntary source
    16  or any combination thereof.
    17    §  2.  This  act shall take effect eighteen months after it shall have
    18  become a law.
