        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring training  of
          teachers in dyslexia identification
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 3004 of the education law is amended  by  adding  a
     2  new subdivision 7 to read as follows:
     3    7.  Notwithstanding  any  other  provision of law, the commissioner is
     4  authorized and directed to certify and require training of  teachers  in
     5  dyslexia  identification.  Such  certification  and  training  shall  be
     6  required to receive or  renew  a  certification  to  teach  kindergarten
     7  through  fifth  grade.  The  commissioner  shall prescribe the necessary
     8  regulations and establish such training related to the identification of
     9  children with dyslexia. Such training and training requirements shall be
    10  obtained from the center for dyslexia and dysgraphia  established  under
    11  section  three hundred nineteen of this chapter, as added by chapter six
    12  hundred fifteen of the laws of two thousand twenty-five, and the  center
    13  for  dyslexia and dysgraphia shall include in such training and training
    14  requirements curricula standards, number of hours of training  required,
    15  requirements  for providers of the training, and requirements for demon-
    16  strating successful completion of the required training.
    17    § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of July  next  succeeding
    18  the date on which it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the
    19  addition,  amendment  and/or  repeal of any rule or regulation necessary
    20  for the implementation of this act on its effective date are  authorized
    21  to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
