        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to allowing certain unli-
          censed  individuals  to  provide  care  to  animals  in the custody or
          possession of an animal shelter
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  Section  6713 of the education law is amended by adding a
     2  new subdivision 3 to read as follows:
     3    3. An unlicensed person acting under direct or indirect supervision of
     4  a veterinarian licensed pursuant to this article  may  provide  care  to
     5  animals in the custody or possession of an animal shelter, as defined in
     6  subdivision  six  of  section four hundred twenty of the agriculture and
     7  markets  law,  including  animals  subject  to  the  redemption  periods
     8  provided  for  in  section  one hundred seventeen of the agriculture and
     9  markets law, provided that:
    10    a. the individual is performing tasks in accordance with a written  or
    11  verbal protocol provided by the supervising veterinarian; and
    12    b. the supervising veterinarian has determined that the individual has
    13  received sufficient and proper training to perform those specific tasks.
    14    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
