        Introduced  by  COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Manktelow)
          -- read once and referred to the Committee on Governmental Operations
 
        AN ACT to amend the state law, in relation  to  naming  the  red-spotted
          newt/eastern newt the official amphibian of the state of New York
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The state law is amended by adding a new  section  87-a  to
     2  read as follows:
     3    §  87-a.  State  amphibian.  The  red-spotted newt/eastern newt (noto-
     4  phthalmus viridescens) shall be the official amphibian of the  state  of
     5  New York.
     6    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
