Gibbs) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to limiting the availability of certain special number plates The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 404 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by 2 adding a new subdivision 2-a to read as follows: 3 2-a. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, special 4 number plates reserved for elected public officers shall only be avail- 5 able to such elected public officers during their term of office and 6 shall be surrendered to the department upon the end of such term. 7 § 2. Section 411-a of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding 8 a new subdivision 2-a to read as follows: 9 2-a. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, special 10 number plates reserved for elected public officers shall only be avail- 11 able to such elected public officers during their term of office and 12 shall be surrendered to the department upon the end of such term. 13 § 3. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall 14 have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or 15 repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of 16 this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed 17 on or before such effective date.
