AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to authorizing
distinctive license plates for doctors of osteopathic medicine
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new
2 section 404-ff to read as follows:
3 § 404-ff. Distinctive plates for Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine. 1.
4 Any New York state licensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in this state
5 shall, upon request in an application filed with the commissioner in
6 such form and detail as the commissioner shall prescribe, be issued a
7 license plate that:
8 (a) bears the letters "DO" and the word "physician" in a prominent
9 manner.
10 (b) includes the Staff of Asclepius, consisting of a single serpent
11 entwined around a staff.
12 (c) is formatted in a manner equivalent to the physician license
13 plates issued to Medical Doctors.
14 2. The distinctive plate authorized herein shall be issued upon proof,
15 satisfactory to the commissioner, that the applicant possesses a current
16 registration certificate issued by the New York state education depart-
17 ment and is the sole registered owner of the motor vehicle for which
18 such plates are requested.
19 3. A distinctive plate issued pursuant to this section shall be issued
20 in the same manner as other number plates upon payment of the regular
21 registration fee prescribed by section four hundred one of this article
22 and an additional annual service charge of thirty-one dollars and twen-
23 ty-five cents.
24 § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
25 it shall have become a law.
