AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to prohibiting certain
election officials from being in political action committees and inde-
pendent expenditure committees
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 3-100 of the election law is amended by adding a
2 new subdivision 6 to read as follows:
3 6. No commissioner shall serve as treasurer of, or have operational
4 control or managerial influence over, a political action committee or
5 independent expenditure committee for a candidate in an election such
6 commissioner is overseeing. For the purposes of this subdivision, the
7 following terms shall have the following meanings:
8 (a) "Independent expenditure committee" shall have the same meaning as
9 such term is defined in section 14-100 of this chapter.
10 (b) "Political action committee" shall have the same meaning as such
11 term is defined in section 14-100 of this chapter.
12 § 2. Section 3-200 of the election law is amended by adding a new
13 subdivision 8 to read as follows:
14 8. No board member shall serve as treasurer of, or have operational
15 control or managerial influence over, a political action committee or
16 independent expenditure committee for a candidate in an election such
17 board member is overseeing. For the purposes of this subdivision, the
18 following terms shall have the following meanings:
19 (a) "Independent expenditure committee" shall have the same meaning as
20 such term is defined in section 14-100 of this chapter.
21 (b) "Political action committee" shall have the same meaning as such
22 term is defined in section 14-100 of this chapter.
23 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
