AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to student-athlete
contracts
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Subdivision 6 of section 6438-c of the education law is
2 amended by adding a new paragraph (e) to read as follows:
3 (e) A student-athlete shall not enter into a contract providing
4 compensation for the use of the athlete's name, image, or likeness for
5 the endorsement of tobacco, alcohol, illegal substances or activities,
6 banned athletic substances, or any form of gambling or gaming, including
7 sports wagering.
8 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to all
9 contracts entered into by any student-athlete on and after such effec-
10 tive date.
