AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring
electric vehicle charging stations to include at least one space to
accommodate wheelchair accessible electric vehicles
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Subdivision 9-a of section 1005 of the public authorities
2 law, as amended by a chapter of the laws of 2024 amending the public
3 authorities law relating to requiring electric vehicle charging stations
4 and electric vehicle capable parking spaces to accommodate wheelchair
5 accessible electric vehicles, as proposed in legislative bills numbers
6 S. 8979 and A. 7091, is amended to read as follows:
7 9-a. As deemed feasible and advisable by the trustees, to design,
8 finance, develop, construct, install, lease, operate and maintain elec-
9 tric vehicle charging stations throughout the state for use by the
10 public. Such electric vehicle charging stations shall include [spaces]
11 at least one space that [are] is large enough to accommodate wheelchair
12 accessible electric vehicles, including but not limited to, vans and
13 minivans. The authority shall annually post on their website a report
14 on those activities undertaken pursuant to this subdivision, including
15 but not limited to: the total number of electric vehicle charging
16 stations in operation pursuant to such authorization, the locations of
17 such charging stations, and the total costs to the authority associated
18 with such activities.
19 § 2. This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same
20 manner as a chapter of the laws of 2024 amending the public authorities
21 law relating to requiring electric vehicle charging stations and elec-
22 tric vehicle capable parking spaces to accommodate wheelchair accessible
23 electric vehicles, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 8979 and
24 A. 7091, takes effect.
