        AN  ACT  to  amend  the  agriculture and markets law, in relation to the
          recovery of a deceased dog or cat on public roads
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1. The agriculture and markets law is amended by adding a new
     2  section 377-b to read as follows:
     3    § 377-b. Recovery of a deceased dog or cat on public roads. Any munic-
     4  ipal employee that recovers the body of a dog or cat killed on a  public
     5  road  in  the  normal  and  ordinary  course of the public employment or
     6  duties of such employee shall make a reasonable effort to detect indicia
     7  of ownership, such as tags, license numbers, or other  such  identifiers
     8  on  or about the animal and shall make a reasonable effort to notify the
     9  owner or an animal management service concerning the animal's death.
    10    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
    11  it shall have become a law.
