Subparagraph 1 of paragraph a of subdivision 3 of section 2 3204 of the education law, as amended by chapter 14 of the laws of 1958, 3 is amended to read as follows: 4 (1) The course of study for the first eight years of full time public 5 day schools shall provide for instruction in at least the twelve common 6 school branches of arithmetic, reading, spelling, writing, including 7 cursive writing, the English language, geography, United States history, 8 civics, hygiene, physical training, the history of New York state and 9 science. 10 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to school 11 years commencing on the first of July next succeeding the date on which 12 it shall have become a law.
