        AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring  fire
          insurance  for  any  building  where bicycles with electric assist are
          repaired, sold, rented, or stored for repair, sale or rental

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
     2  391-x to read as follows:
     3    §  391-x.  Repair,  sale,  or rental of bicycles with electric assist;
     4  fire insurance. 1. On and after January first, two thousand  twenty-six,
     5  any  owner  of  a  building  where  bicycles  with  electric  assist are
     6  repaired, sold, rented, or stored for repair, sale or rental shall:
     7    (a) maintain fire insurance coverage of at least one  million  dollars
     8  and  an  additional  one  hundred thousand dollars per tenant if tenants
     9  reside in such building; and
    10    (b) maintain a certificate of insurance demonstrating compliance  with
    11  this section.
    12    2.  Whenever  a  fire-related emergency or other fire-related incident
    13  occurs in a building where bicycles with electric assist  are  repaired,
    14  sold  or  rented, or stored for repair, sale or rental, no bicycles with
    15  electric assist, including batteries or electrical systems for  bicycles
    16  with  electric  assist,  shall be stored on the premises for any purpose
    17  until the premises have been inspected and determined to be  in  compli-
    18  ance with all relevant laws and regulations by an appropriate and quali-
    19  fied inspector as determined by the local government.
    20    3.  For  the  purposes of this section, "bicycle with electric assist"
    21  shall have the same meaning as section one hundred two-c of the  vehicle
    22  and  traffic  law  and shall further include any batteries or electrical
    23  systems for a bicycle with electric assist.
    24    § 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth  day  after  it  shall
    25  have become a law.
