AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to enacting the college
student suicide prevention act
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Short title. This act shall be known and may be cited as
2 the "college student suicide prevention act".
3 § 2. The education law is amended by adding a new section 6438-e to
4 read as follows:
5 § 6438-e. College student suicide prevention act. The governing board
6 or body of every higher education institution shall, before the first
7 day of August, two thousand twenty-seven, adopt policies, procedures,
8 and guidelines on student suicide prevention, intervention, and postven-
9 tion. Such policies, procedures, and guidelines shall be developed in
10 consultation with collegiate and community stakeholders, campus-employed
11 mental health professionals, and suicide prevention experts.
12 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
