        AN  ACT  to amend the education law, in relation to enacting the 3000 by
          '30 act which provides loan forgiveness for certain social workers
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.   This act shall be known and may be cited as the "3000 by
     2  '30 act".
     3    § 2. The education law is amended by adding a  new  section  679-k  to
     4  read as follows:
     5    §  679-k. New York state "three thousand by thirty" social worker loan
     6  forgiveness incentive program. 1.  Eligibility. To be  eligible  for  an
     7  award pursuant to this section, applicants shall:
     8    (a)  have  graduated  and  obtained a degree from an approved New York
     9  state college or university;
    10    (b) have an outstanding student loan debt from obtaining such degree;
    11    (c) be employed as a licensed master social worker or  licensed  clin-
    12  ical  social  worker  in  New  York state in accordance with article one
    13  hundred fifty-four of this chapter;
    14    (d) apply for this program within two years of college graduation;
    15    (e) comply with subdivision five of section six hundred  sixty-one  of
    16  this part; and
    17    (f)  make  a commitment to practice within the state for the next five
    18  years.
    19    2. Awards. The corporation shall  grant  such  awards  within  amounts
    20  appropriated for such purposes and based on the availability of funds.
    21    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
