        AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to providing a  reduction
          in  insurance  premium  charges  for insured volunteer firefighters or
          emergency  personnel  for  a  three  year  period  after  successfully
          completing  the  emergency  vehicle operator's course as part of their
          training
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  Subsection  (a)  of section 2336 of the insurance law, as
     2  amended by section 3 of chapter 4 of the laws of  2021,  is  amended  by
     3  adding a new paragraph 3 to read as follows:
     4    (3)  Any  schedule of rates or rating plan for motor vehicle liability
     5  and collision insurance submitted to the superintendent may provide  for
     6  an  actuarially  appropriate  reduction  in  premium charges for insured
     7  volunteer firefighters or emergency personnel for a  three  year  period
     8  after  successfully  completing  the emergency vehicle operator's course
     9  (EVOC) as part of their  training,  provided  that  there  shall  be  no
    10  reduction in premiums for a self-instruction defensive driving course or
    11  a  course  which does not provide for actual classroom instruction for a
    12  minimum number of hours as determined by the department of  motor  vehi-
    13  cles.
    14    §  2.  Subsection (a) of section 2336 of the insurance law, as amended
    15  by section 4 of chapter 4 of the laws of 2021, is amended  by  adding  a
    16  new paragraph 3 to read as follows:
    17    (3)  Any  schedule of rates or rating plan for motor vehicle liability
    18  and collision insurance submitted to the superintendent may provide  for
    19  an  actuarially  appropriate  reduction  in  premium charges for insured
    20  volunteer firefighters or emergency personnel for a  three  year  period
    21  after  successfully  completing  the emergency vehicle operator's course

     1  (EVOC) as part of their  training,  provided  that  there  shall  be  no
     2  reduction in premiums for a self-instruction defensive driving course or
     3  a  course  which does not provide for actual classroom instruction for a
     4  minimum  number  of hours as determined by the department of motor vehi-
     5  cles.
     6    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately; provided however that the
     7  amendments to subsection (a) of section 2336 of the insurance  law  made
     8  by section one of this act shall be subject to the expiration and rever-
     9  sion of such subsection pursuant to section 5 of chapter 751 of the laws
    10  of  2005,  as amended, when upon such date the provisions of section two
    11  of this act shall take effect.
