          tee on Governmental Employees
 
        AN ACT to allow Andriel Santana to be eligible to take the civil service
          exam for the position of deputy sheriff for the Columbia County  Sher-
          iff's Office
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of  the  civil
     2  service  law  or  any  other  provision  of law to the contrary, Andriel
     3  Santana, who has been continuously employed by the Columbia County Sher-
     4  iff's office, in the county of Columbia,  as  a  full-time  correctional
     5  officer,  shall  be eligible to take the competitive civil service exam-
     6  ination for the position of deputy sheriff and  shall,  contingent  upon
     7  his  score on such examination, be eligible to be placed on the eligible
     8  list for appointment as a full-time  deputy  sheriff  for  the  Columbia
     9  county sheriff's office.
    10    §  2.  Andriel  Santana  shall  otherwise  be subject to the merit and
    11  fitness provisions of the civil  service  law  applicable  to  full-time
    12  deputy sheriffs.
    13    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
