AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
the state highway system as the "Port Authority Police Officers Arthur
M. Ansert Jr. and William J. Leahy Memorial Bridge"
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-r to
2 read as follows:
3 § 344-r. Portion of the state highway system to be designated as the
4 "Port Authority Police Officers Arthur M. Ansert Jr. and William J.
5 Leahy Memorial Bridge". All that portion of the state highway system
6 constituting the bridge on the South Service Road, between Federal
7 Circle and the Perimeter Road Overpass, crossing over the Van Wyck
8 Expressway in the neighborhood of Jamaica, county of Queens, shall be
9 designated and known as the "Port Authority Police Officers Arthur M.
10 Ansert Jr. and William J. Leahy Memorial Bridge".
11 § 2. The commissioner of transportation, in consultation with the
12 executive director of the port authority of New York and New Jersey,
13 shall provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing
14 of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of
15 this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible
16 disruption of commerce, the designation called for pursuant to section
17 one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name
18 of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act.
19 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
