        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to  permitting  lifeguard
          certification  training courses to satisfy required physical education
          credits
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  Subdivision  5  of  section  803 of the education law, as
     2  amended by chapter 118 of the laws  of  1957,  is  amended  to  read  as
     3  follows:
     4    5.  It shall be the duty of the regents to adopt rules determining the
     5  subjects to be included in courses of physical education provided for in
     6  this section, the period of instruction in each  of  such  courses,  the
     7  qualifications  of  teachers,  and  the  attendance upon such courses of
     8  instruction. The regents shall adopt rules to permit students to receive
     9  credits towards the required periods of  instruction  mandated  by  this
    10  section  for  participation in and attainment of lifeguard certification
    11  from a New York state-approved lifeguard training program.
    12    § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
    13  have become a law.
