Provides that where a supervisor in a town with a population of six hundred thousand or more vacates their position before the end of their term, a special election shall occur in order to fill such vacant supervisor position.

AN ACT to amend the town law, in relation to requiring a special
election to fill a vacant supervisor position in certain towns
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The town law is amended by adding a new section 89 to read
2 as follows:
3 § 89. Special elections for supervisors in towns with a population of
4 three hundred fifty thousand or more. Notwithstanding subdivision five
5 of section sixty-four of this chapter or any other law to the contrary,
6 in a town with a population of six hundred thousand or more, where a
7 supervisor has vacated such position before the end of their term, there
8 shall be a special election held to fill such vacancy. Such special
9 election shall be held on a Tuesday as soon as practicable.
10 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
