AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law and the highway law, in
relation to requiring slow-moving traffic, trucks, buses, and other
certain vehicles use the right two lanes of a multilane roadway
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 1128 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by
2 adding a new subdivision (e) to read as follows:
3 (e) Upon a roadway which is divided into three or more lanes to be
4 used by traffic moving in a particular direction, slow-moving traffic,
5 trucks, buses, and types of vehicles specified by the commissioner shall
6 only use the two right most lanes except in preparation for making a
7 left turn, in preparation for using a left exit, or where required by a
8 traffic-control device.
9 § 2. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 333 to read as
10 follows:
11 § 333. Marking of certain lanes. Each roadway which is divided into
12 three or more lanes to be used exclusively by traffic moving in a
13 particular direction shall have each lane other than the two right most
14 lanes marked with "NO TRUCKS OR BUSES".
15 § 3. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed-
16 ing the date on which it shall have become a law. Effective immediately,
17 the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation neces-
18 sary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are
19 authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
