        AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to free bus fare
          for  high school students on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority
          omnibus service

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  Section  1266 of the public authorities law is amended by
     2  adding a new subdivision 20 to read as follows:
     3    20. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the authority and  any
     4  of  its subsidiary corporations shall establish and implement a free bus
     5  fare program for all high school  students  enrolled  in  an  accredited
     6  public  or  non-public high school in the city of New York. The free bus
     7  fare program established and implemented pursuant  to  this  subdivision
     8  shall  be  in  operation  during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily
     9  during which such authority provides omnibus services, and such  program
    10  shall  not  be  limited  in  operation to off-peak hours or to any other
    11  hours designated by the authority or its  subsidiary  corporations.  The
    12  chair  shall establish and implement all rules and regulations necessary
    13  to effectuate this subdivision.
    14    § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next  succeed-
    15  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
