COMMENDING the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club
upon the occasion of its 100th Anniversary on June
25, 2025
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those outstanding organizations whose purposeful endeavors
enhance the quality of life in their communities and beyond, and whose
commitment to service embodies the highest standards of excellence; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club upon the occasion of its
100th Anniversary on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, to be celebrated on
Sunday, June 1, 2025 at Toscana on Main in Eastchester, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs
International, one of the largest service organizations in the world,
and is deeply committed to meeting the unique needs of the communities
it serves; and
WHEREAS, Founded on June 25, 1925, by a group of citizens of
Tuckahoe, Eastchester, and Bronxville, the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions
Club has a long and rich history of community service and philanthropy
in these founding communities and the surrounding area; and
WHEREAS, Since its foundation, the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club
boasts a clear mission to aid the blind and visually impaired, assist
youth, promote education, and fulfill community needs; these goals are
met along with putting into action the larger Lions Club International
organization's mission of fostering a spirit of understanding among
peoples of the world and encouraging civic, cultural, and social
engagement within communities; and
WHEREAS, The Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club has been involved in
various community projects throughout its history, including donating
braille books to local libraries, hosting numerous fundraisers,
organizing clothing and toy donation drives, donating backpacks and
school supplies, providing scholarships, and hosting countless events
for the community; and
WHEREAS, The Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club is dedicated to
improving the lives of those who are visually impaired, and they
maintain five eyeglass donation mailboxes throughout the community,
which have collected over 10,000 pairs of eyeglasses annually that are
regularly distributed to those who lack access to basic eye care
services; and
WHEREAS, The creative community projects taken on by the
Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club has benefited many different
communities, groups, and organizations in the area, including the
Lawrence Hospital, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Eastchester Community
Action Partnership, the Westchester School, Guiding Eyes for the Blind,
Vacation Camp for the Blind, and students in all grade levels within the
Tuckahoe, Eastchester, and Bronxville school districts; and
WHEREAS, Donations are a vital part of the Tuckahoe-Eastchester
Lions Club operations, and their donations have supported various local
organizations including the Bronxville-Eastchester-Tuckahoe Community
Fund, the Eastchester Rotary, Blue Path Service Dogs, Tuckahoe Youth
Association, Tuckahoe Senior Citizens, Lifting Up Westchester, and the
Lions International Disaster Relief Fund; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the diverse efforts of the
Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club demonstrates a strong dedication to
addressing a wide spectrum of community needs with a consistent focus on
youth development and overall community welfare; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 100-year history, the
Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club has truly strived to live up to its
motto, "We Serve"; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club upon the occasion of
celebrating its 100th Anniversary, and to honor its members, past and
present, who have labored so conscientiously to secure and improve the
quality of life in the community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club.
