BY: Senator CHAN

COMMENDING the NYPD Asian Jade Society upon the
occasion of its 45th Anniversary and recognizing its
outstanding service to the City and State of New
        York

WHEREAS It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend organizations that have shown a long-standing commitment to
public service, diversity, and the safety of all New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the NYPD Asian Jade Society upon the occasion of its 45th
Anniversary, to be celebrated during its visit to Albany  in  May  2025;
and

WHEREAS The NYPD Asian Jade Society was founded in 1980 by ten
pioneering Asian American officers who sought to support one another,
increase cultural understanding within the department, and advocate for
greater inclusion and advancement within the ranks of the NYPD; and

WHEREAS Over the past 45 years, the Asian Jade Society has grown to
become one of the most active and respected fraternal organizations in
the NYPD, providing mentorship, career development, community
engagement, and cultural representation for hundreds of officers and
civilian personnel; and

WHEREAS The Society has been instrumental in fostering dialogue and
trust between law enforcement and New York's diverse Asian American and
Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities, particularly during times of
heightened tension or misunderstanding; and

WHEREAS The legacy of members such as Detective Wenjian Liu, who gave
his life in the line of duty in 2014, and Chief Thomas M. Chan, the
first Asian American to rise to the three-star rank in NYPD history,
exemplify the bravery, professionalism, and leadership that the Society
promotes; and

WHEREAS The Asian Jade Society continues to partner with youth
programs, civic organizations, and cultural institutions to ensure that
the NYPD reflects and respects the communities it serves; and

WHEREAS In this milestone year, the Society is not only celebrating
its past but also renewing its mission to support the next generation of
AAPI leaders in law enforcement; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the NYPD Asian Jade Society upon the occasion of its 45th
Anniversary and to recognize its outstanding service, leadership, and
enduring contribution to the safety and diversity of New York City and
the entire State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
