COMMEMORATING the 2025 Guyana Independence Parade
on June 1, 2025
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
celebrate the rich cultural heritage, resilience, and contributions of
the Caribbean diaspora in the State of New York, and to honor historic
milestones of significance to our immigrant communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
traditions, this Legislative Body is proud to commemorate the 2025
Guyana Independence Parade, in celebration of the 59th anniversary of
the independence of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, to be held on
Sunday, June 1, 2025, in the borough of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 59th anniversary of the independence of
the Cooperative Republic of Guyana from British colonial rule-a
momentous occasion that continues to inspire pride, unity, and
reflection among Guyanese people at home and abroad; and
WHEREAS, The parade, organized by the Guyana Independence
Celebration Committee NYC, will culminate in a vibrant Guyana
Celebration Concert, showcasing the music, culture, and creativity of
the Guyanese community; and
WHEREAS, The Guyana Independence Parade has become a treasured
annual tradition in Brooklyn, celebrating the values of freedom,
self-determination, and cultural identity, while promoting civic pride
and intergenerational unity within the Guyanese-American population; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body proudly commends the organizers,
community leaders, cultural ambassadors, and residents whose tireless
efforts have ensured that this celebration continues to uplift and
connect our diverse communities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 2025 Guyana Independence Parade, to be held on June 1,
2025, and to honor the enduring spirit of the Guyanese people in New
York and around the world; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Guyana Independence Celebration Committee NYC.
