COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the
Toccolana Club of Rome, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commemorate those institutions and organizations within the State of New
York that have contributed significantly to the growth and enrichment of
their communities, embodying the spirit of civic engagement and cultural
preservation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Toccolana Club to be celebrated
at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2025 World Series of Bocce on Thursday,
July 17, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1925 by Italian immigrants from the
village of Tocco da Casauria, located in the Province of Pescara in the
Abruzzo Region of Italy, the Toccolana Club has grown from a small
community gathering place into a cherished and enduring institution in
the City of Rome, New York; and
WHEREAS, For a century, the Toccolana Club has played a central role
in the civic, cultural, and recreational life of the region, providing a
welcoming space for members and visitors to celebrate heritage, build
community, and enjoy meaningful traditions; and
WHEREAS, The Toccolana Club is widely recognized as the home of the
World Series of Bocce, a premier national tournament that attracts top
players from across the country; with 15 regulation bocce courts, the
Club offers a world-class venue for both competitive play and casual
recreation, making bocce an essential and beloved part of the Club's
identity; and
WHEREAS, In addition to bocce, the Toccolana Club serves as a
vibrant venue for hosting a wide variety of events, including community
fundraisers, family celebrations, social gatherings, and civic
functions; through these endeavors, the Club continues to strengthen
bonds among neighbors and generations alike; and
WHEREAS, The enduring legacy of the Toccolana Club is a testament to
the values of unity, perseverance, and pride shared by its founders and
sustained by its members over the past century; it stands today as a
cornerstone of Rome's cultural fabric and a model of community spirit;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Toccolana Club of Rome, New
York, recognizing its outstanding contributions to the community and its
continued commitment to fellowship, tradition, and service; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Toccolana Club of Rome, New York.
