MOURNING the death of Neil Francis Gollogly,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Neil Francis Gollogly, of Yorktown Heights, New York, died
on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, In 1932, Neil Francis Gollogly was born to Neil T. Gollogly
and Anna Daly, hard-working Scottish immigrants, in Tarrytown, New York;
and
WHEREAS, As a first-generation Scottish American, Neil Francis
Gollogly lived a life defined by selflessness, service, and devotion to
both family and community; when he was a young child, he delivered
newspapers and served as an altar boy at St. Theresa's Parish where he
also attended grammar school; he graduated from North Tarrytown High
School where he excelled as a member of the track team; and
WHEREAS, In 1951, Neil Francis Gollogly was drawn to military
service and entered the United States Navy where he trained as an
electrician and developed a lifelong love for the sea; after his Navy
days, he settled in Millwood, New York, with his beloved wife, Katherine
(Kae), where the couple raised five children; and
WHEREAS, Neil Francis Gollogly was an Electrician Foreman at
Reader's Digest for many years; in 1958, he joined the Millwood Fire
Company, moving his way up the ranks, and in 1969, he was named Fire
Chief; tragically, that same year, he became a widower and single father
to his five young children; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Neil Francis Gollogly found love again and married
Nan; in 1983, he welcomed his sixth child; and
WHEREAS, Neil Francis Gollogly never stopped volunteering, rising
through the ranks of community leadership and eventually becoming Fire
Commissioner of the Millwood Fire District; and
WHEREAS, Neil Francis Gollogly played a pivotal role in securing
plans for a new firehouse, laying the groundwork for future generations
of first responders; he was also a Charter Member of the Westchester
County Parade Judges Association, enjoying the fellowship and tradition
of the region's fire service; and
WHEREAS, Neil Francis Gollogly is survived by his devoted wife of 49
years, Nan; children, Neil (Beth) Gollogly, Thomas Gollogly, Kathy
(Stan) Heist, Marianne Reba, and Douglas (Kate) Gollogly;
daughter-in-law, Sandy Gollogly; grandchildren, Kate, Kelly, Kevin,
Taylor, Neil, Kim, Scott, Erin, and Grace; and great-grandchild,
one-year-old Pippen; he was predeceased by his sister, Mary (Frank)
Galgano, and his beloved son, Kevin Gollogly; and
WHEREAS, Neil Francis Gollogly always acted with conviction and a
deep commitment to his community; his strong values and faith shaped the
family he raised and the legacy he leaves behind; he will always be
remembered for his integrity, fierce work ethic, sense of humor, and
friendly smile; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Neil Francis Gollogly leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Neil Francis Gollogly; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Neil Francis Gollogly.
