MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
May 10, 2025, as Golf Day in the State of New York,
in conjunction with National Golf Day
WHEREAS, National Golf Day is celebrated every May 10th; this
special day actively encourages more people to take up the sport;
through the years, industry leaders in the United States have worked to
make golf more accessible and affordable; and
WHEREAS, Participation in the sport of golf has increased
dramatically since 2020; National Golf Day reinforces the sport's
emotional, social, physical, and environmental benefits; it is a day to
remember that this excellent sport could be for everyone; and
WHEREAS, The American golf industry remains represented in every
state of the country with more than 15,000 golf facilities, two thirds
of which are open to the public; and
WHEREAS, An estimated 47 million Americans enjoy playing the game,
accounting for approximately 543 million rounds played in 2023; and
WHEREAS, The golf industry provides two million jobs, generating a
total economic impact of more than $100 billion annually; and
WHEREAS, The physical and social benefits of all golf facilities -
municipal, public, and private - extend to users of all ages and
demographics; and
WHEREAS, Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course in Bronx, New York, opened
as the first public golf course in the United States in 1895 and
continues in operation today, welcoming golfers from all walks of life;
and
WHEREAS, Four golf courses within New York State's Capital Region
are celebrating their centennial anniversaries this year; and
WHEREAS, The golf industry continues to generate major professional
golf tournaments that are played in New York State; and
WHEREAS, New York State is hosting the 2025 Ryder Cup at the
Bethpage State Park - Black Course; and
WHEREAS, New York State will also be home to the 2026 US Open at
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton and 2028 US Open at Winged
Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck; and
WHEREAS, The golf industry in New York State is excited to release
its new economic and environmental impact statements, in conjunction
with the Ryder Cup, later this year; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 10, 2025, as Golf Day
in the State of New York, in conjunction with National Golf Day; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York.
