Senate Resolution No. 1269

        MOURNING   the   death   of   Redmond   Bermingham
        distinguished citizen  and  devoted  member  of  his
        community
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Redmond Bermingham, died on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the
age of 81; and
 
  WHEREAS, Born on January 6,  1944,  to  Jack  and  Nell  Bermingham,
Redmond  Bermingham  grew  up  in Shanballymore and Ballyshonack, County
Cork, Ireland; and
 
  WHEREAS, After  spending  a  year  in  England,  Redmond  Bermingham
emigrated  to  the  United  States in 1964 where, not long after, he was
drafted and served proudly in the United States Army in Vietnam; and
 
  WHEREAS, In 1967, Redmond Bermingham  met  the  love  of  his  life,
Bridget  Little,  and  their  whirlwind romance led to marriage in 1968;
together they raised two children, Sean and Eileen; and
 
  WHEREAS, Redmond Bermingham distinguished himself in his  profession
and  by  his  sincere  dedication  and  substantial  contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
 
  WHEREAS, Redmond Bermingham built a career in finance, working  with
Smith Barney and providing independent financial consulting; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  1987,  Redmond Bermingham's entrepreneurial spirit led
him in a new direction when he opened  James'  Gate,  an  Irish  pub  in
Woodside, Queens, New York, which became a beloved gathering place until
its  closing  in  June  1997;  he continued his career at the Stadium in
Garrison, New York and The Quiet Man in Peekskill, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Redmond Bermingham's  commitment  to  excellence,  and  his
spirit  of  humanity,  carried  over  into  all  fields  of  enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
 
  WHEREAS, More than a just  businessman,  Redmond  Bermingham  was  a
mentor  to countless Irish newcomers; he established strong roots in the
Irish community in Peekskill where he was a member of the Ancient  Order
of Hibernians; and
 
  WHEREAS, Known as a talented man and lover of Irish culture, Redmond
Bermingham  was  an  avid  hurler, a gifted singer, and a lover of Irish
music; his presence always drew a crowd and he will  be  remembered  for
his  rich  voice  which will resonate in the hearts of many for years to
come; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Redmond  Bermingham  is  survived  by  his  beloved  wife,
Bridget;  their  children,  Sean  and  Eileen;  his brother, Walter; his
sister, Eleanor; his grandchildren, Shane, Denis, Gavin, Bridget,  Jack,
Kyle, Brady and Niall; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Armed  with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Redmond Bermingham leaves behind a legacy  which  will  long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Redmond Bermingham distinguished citizen and  devoted
member of his community; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Redmond Bermingham.
